Welcome to SammyServers.
If you're new to the world of role playing and/or SammyServers then this could help you get along ingame. We're are going to cover the MOTD, basic Job descriptions, ranks, chats, salarys, printers, in game menu's and basic tools.
The MOTD is short for "Message Of The Day" and it contains all the rules in the game. For the latest MOTD go to http://sammyservers.com/gmoddarkrp/ You can also see the rules in the F4 menu (see below).
The two main rules that you have to follow in game is RDM and NLR which stand for "Random Death Match" and "New Life Rule" which is explained in the MOTD. Also the only jobs that are allowed to raid houses to steal, arrest or destroy printers are Gangsters and CP's. Bounty Hunters are allowed to break in to kill their target (If you kill the target before breaking in, you may not break in afterwards).
When you enter the game, you always start out as a Citizen. To change jobs, buy items for that job, place a bounty, read rules or change the colour of your HUD press F4 for a menu.
In the Tab "Money/Commands" you can give people money, drop money, change your name, drop current weapon, buy health for $60, demote a player, sell all doors and toggle third person view.
To save you going into F4 for every little thing there are shortcuts to most of these.
/give <amount> - Gives the amount of money to the person your looking at. /dropmoney <amount> - Drops the amount of money on the floor. /rpname <name> - Changes your RP name. /drop - Drops your current weapon that your holding. /buyhealth - Restores your health to 100 for $60. /demote <name> <reason> - Starts a vote to demote the name of the person for the reason you put in.
Depending on what job you have there will also be more options at the bottom.
There are six things in the F4 menu that anyone can buy in the "Entites/Weapons" tab. Depending on what job you have there will also be more items/shipments you can buy below the printer and door.
Pistol Ammo - $30 SMG Ammo - $60 Shotgun Ammo - $70 Sniper Ammo - $80 Printer - $1000 Dynamic Door - $50
In the tab "HUD" your able to change the colour/length/height/position etc of the health bar aswell as the background.
This is to change the HUD thats bottom left of the screen which tells you your health, salary, job and how much money you have.
While in the game, look at a door and press F2, a small menu with red buttons comes in the middle of the screen which allows you to buy the door, then when you own the door press F2 again and the menu will now let you sell, add owner(s), remove owner(s) and set the doors title. With each door you pay tax, we all hate tax but it's there to stop people owning 50+ doors.
In the F4 menu you can buy a maximum of four printers at $1000 each. The printers are purchaseable with any job you pick and they will print $250 each time, with a 100-350 second random time inbetween. (This means that it could print three times within 300 seconds or once in 350 seconds.) However, with the printers there is about a 10% chance that it will catch on fire and explode. If it explodes, it can cause the other printers in a small area to catch on fire and repeat the process, so make sure you have a small area where you can quickly grab the printer to dump it and run so it will not set fire to anything or kill you.
Printers are illegal in default law, they can be made legal by mayor or chief.
In Game Ranks.
There are six different ranks inside the game which go in this order from lowest to highest.
Since Dellkan took over as the coder for our server, he has added different chats for different people and different ranks, heres a list.
/cr - Will request help from the police. /g - Will talk to other group members (If you're a blue gangster it will talk to all other blue gangsters and red for red etc). /ac - Admin chat. /sac - Super Admin Chat. /4ac - Level 4 Chat. /911 - Reports to the CP console who last attacked you. /advert - Only used to advertise your Wares if running a shop/business. /ooc or // - This is the main chat, OOC stands for Out Of Character. In other words, when you talk in this chat, you can not use information from it in character (If someone say's "I just killed a man" in OOC, CP can not warrant/arrest him because that is called Metagaming.) /agenda [message] - This is used when your a boss/chief of a group, it will tell all other group members what your orders are. (With these orders you can not tell your group to break any MOTD rules such as RDM and NLR.) /broadcast - This is Mayor only and it is used to set rules for RP'ing. /y - Yells your message so people further away can hear you. /w - Whispers your message so people cant hear you from so far away.
(With the rank chats, a Level4 can see Admin and Super Admin chat but an Admin can't see Super Admin or Level4 Chat.)
With each job you get different Salaries. This is paid to you every 10 minutes of game play to help you along.
This job is special. You have to pay to become admin and this job is also only used to sort problems out, but with admin you can use noclip in or out of the admin job to help build a base, get more tools for building and can use the "novote" to get into most jobs. With the admin class, the higher ranking admins (Level 4 or Owner) can go to Admin job to start events.
However, just because you have brought admin doesn't mean you can do what you want when you want. If you break the MOTD rules using admin powers then you will be reported. When making a ban request/protest please use the right format with all details. Admins can have their admin removed if they get more than 11 points in the table (refer to The Points System below).
The Banker's job has the highest Salary and it's basic role is storing items for other people for money. These items can include anything purchaseable from any job. Most of the time the Banker needs to build a solid vault to stop thiefs, cops and anyone else who wants to get to these items.
The bodyguard can not act alone, he must be hired by someone to guard their shop/printers/bank etc. If they are hired by someone, and he/she see's a gang member trying to break in, he IS allowed to shoot on sight because it is defending his master's place and his job. However, the bodyguard is not excused from the illegal gun law (scroll down to mayor for more detail) and if seen with an illegal gun, he/she can be warranted/searched and arrested.
Bounty Hunters are special, they are the only ones in game that will kill for money, however this does not make it legal and if seen, a CP can arrest/warrant the bounty hunter and a Citizen can report him. When you become a Bounty Hunter a little info box comes up on the left of your screen, this tells you the bounty's name, job and how much his life is worth. Bounty's can be from $500 to $2500 and when you kill a bounty successfully then he/she will be demoted back to Citizen.
When changing to a Blue Gangster, you get a menu with 15 different models (how your character looks) to choose from. When changing to a Red Gangster, you get a menu with 4 different models to choose from.
Blue and Red Gangsters are at WAR, they are allowed to kill each other on sight. However there is two exceptions to this. First, you're not allowed to Spawn Kill anyone, this means that after you've killed them, you must wait till they are a safe distance to kill again. Second is Repeat Killing, this means you should wait 3-5 minutes before killing the same person again. Gangsters must follow their bosses orders known as Agenda which is an info box which comes up at the top left of the screen when changed to Gangster. Gangsters can buy two extra things from the F4 menu than Citizens/Bankers etc and that is Lockpick and Keypad Cracker. With these two items they can break into any building they want to. Gangsters are the ONLY class that are allowed to raid AND steal items from other peoples homes. Gangsters are also allowed to raid the Police Department and take the mayor hostage under the bosses orders.
To become a Blue/Red Mob Boss you must first become a Blue/Red Gangster and then the job option will come up in the F4 menu. Their roles are to organise the Gangsters, tell them who to raid and steal from etc. To do this you use /Agenda to give orders. There is an exception to this though which is in the MOTD as "Gang leaders can not order their gangsters to break the rules." This means you can not tell your Gangsters to RDM, break NLR etc. Mob Bosses spawn with an Unarrest stick so he/she is able to raid the Police Department and unarrest any of his Gangsters or anyone in jail. Mob Bosses can also buy the two same tools as Gangsters (Lockpick and Keypad).
In addiction to this, they can also buy two things a Gangster can't which is a shipment trap for $1500 and a drug lab for $400. The shipment trap is meant to be delivered to the opposite gang members through any means possible (courrier etc) and as soon as the opposite gang member opens it (E button) it will explode. The drug lab acts the same way as a gun lab (see gun dealer below). viewtopic.php?t=5269 - Guide on Mob Boss's
If you use the F4 menu to become a Citizen you get a menu with 15 different models to choose from.
When you first join the DarkRP server you start out as a Citizen. Citizens have no Salary because they are unemployed, they also can not pick up any weapons at all and does not even have the grav/phys gun. If you are killed by a Bounty Hunter from any other job then you go back to being a Citizen.
Civil Protection is the role playing law. They can randomly weapon search you for illegal weapons, arrest you if you're on drugs, faster than Citizens and make you a wanted fugitive so the whole police force will be after you. If you are arrested for anything (besides random arresting) then you can ask to pay bail to get out early. Civil Protection has 4 classes and each one has its own role to play.
Civil Protection - This is the normal cop. Civil Protection Tech Specialist - This is the cop that spawns with a lockpick and keypad, if cops need to get into a wanted persons place. Civil Protection Sniper - This is as the name states, the sniper. His role is to get on the roofs etc and snipe wanted people. Civil Protection Chief - The most vital role. His job is the make the laws IF there is no Mayor. He also sets CP's job using /Agenda like mob boss's do.
To get a job as Chief/Sniper/Tech Specialist you must first become a normal CP. Civil Protection must protect the Mayor (unless corrupt (See below)) aswell as the city. They can make a player wanted or request a search warrant using the F4 menu or /wanted <name> <reason> and /warrant <name> <reason>. To make a legal /wanted or /warrant you MUST see/find something illegal first. You can not guess he has an illegal gun, you must weapon search him first and /wanted him if he has an illegal gun. You must see printers or illegal guns inside someones home before you can /warrant them aswell.
Untill recently CP had to enforce the law but now they can become "corrupt". A corrupt cop works against the police force without other CP finding out.
Courier's are the fastest people in the game (2x the speed of all but CP's). Their role is to deliver items and/or shipments to people for a price and they dont care if it's legal or not. They are only allowed to draw a gun if they're being shot at or CP find out about the illegal items he's carrying. viewtopic.php?f=66&t=5316 - Guide on becoming successfull courier's
Drug dealers are one of the few jobs that sell's items in a shop. They can buy any drug from Weed to Mushrooms for a price (in the F4 Menu under Entites/Weapons)
and the default law in MOTD is "All drugs are illegal by default. Cigarettes, beer, and water is legal (obviously)" So unless a Mayor or CP Chief changes that law then you better be sneaky about selling the illegal drugs.
The Gun Dealer is THE most important person in role playing since everyone needs to defend their homes, gun dealers are like the Drug Dealer but selling legal and illegal guns, there are more choice with guns than drugs though and more of a demand for them, thats why this is the more profitable job. The default law for guns in the MOTD is "Default laws for guns are: pistols and knives are legal, everything else is illegal" If the Mayor does change the rule but then dies the rule goes back to the default law, if the CP Chief changes the law then a mayor is elected then the law goes back to default untill the mayor changes it himself. There are seven different types of weapons Gun Dealers can sell... Melee (Knife), Pistols, SMG's, Rifles, Shotguns, Snipers, and Machine Guns.
There is also a Gun Lab that you can buy, what this does is spawns a pistol for whoever pays the amount on screen (you automatically get paid the profit of each pistol sold), this saves time for the customers who want one of the other six type of guns aswell as the customers who just want a pistol. You can change the price it cost's them to buy the pistol from the gun lab by looking at it and typing /price <amount>.
Hobo, the slum of the role playing. Unemployed, homeless and messing with poo called bugbait. Hobo's are not allowed to buy houses, they must build their own and live in it, their bugbait is considered dirty, foul and offensive by the rest of the RP'ers and so the default law is "Throwing bug bait is considered an arrestable offense. Throwing it at admins may result in your doom." This means that CP's can arrest hobo's if they throw bugbait at them (CP's are not allowed to shoot down hobo's for this) and people who are not CP with guns are allowed to shoot them down if it is being aimed at them.
The lord of the slums of role playing. Same as hobo (unemployed, homeless etc) but with 1 big difference, the hobo lord brings the other hobo's together to form either an underground base for them all to live in, or a base topside (no houses allowed). the same rules as hobo apply with the bugbait which is considered dirty, foul and offensive by the rest of the RP'ers and so the default law is "Throwing bug bait is considered an arrestable offense. Throwing it at admins may result in your doom." This means that CP's can arrest hobo's if they throw bugbait at them (CP's are not allowed to shoot down hobo's for this) and people who are not CP with guns are allowed to shoot them down if it is being aimed at them.
The Mayor is one of the most important role playing jobs there is, he decides the rules you play by. He can make all guns and/or drugs legal or illegal he can not however change murder being legal, murder is always illegal. He changes the rules by using the /broadcast <rules>. If the Mayor does change the rules but then dies the rules goes back to the default law, if the CP Chief changes the law then a mayor is elected then the law goes back to default untill the mayor changes it himself. The mayor can make up some of his own rules aswell such as "Being on any rooftop is illegal" but can not make rules that breaks MOTD rules such as "Hobo's must be shot on sight if they're on the surface" (breaking RDM rule). Because of this power he holds he is constantly targeted by people that dont like his rules but there are only three jobs that can legaly (by MOTD rules) kill the mayor and thats Bounty Hunters (with a bounty), Gangsters and Mob Bosses. If a mayor is killed by anyone (Bounty Hunter or not) he will change into a Citizen, that is why the CP must guard him closely.
Medics can be hated on the server since you can not use the /buyhealth command if there is a medic and will be bountied quite often so they can /buyhealth again. The medics job is to either go round healing people for money or set up a healing shop but medics have more freedom than gun/drug dealers since all they have to carry is their medkit just make sure you get paid before you heal or else they could just run off.
Pets are like hobos with the ability to fly, you can not legaly shoot them UNLESS they poop on you. as it states in the MOTD "Pooping on people as a pet is considered an "attack" which people may "defend" themselves against. In simple words - poop on people, and they might kill you." Pets may build "nests" on unreachable places by normal jobs just for the role playing.
Basic Tools Tools in DarkRP can do anything you wish from making text to bring customers to your shop to making a flying machine. We're only going to cover the basic tools here that will help you build a base and make sure your not propblocking. Propblocking means that there is no possible way into your base and in the MOTD it states... "No prop blocking. It sucks, but people have to be able to break into your base/house. Keypads/buttons must be immediately visible in the vicinity of the door. No hidden keypads/buttons."
With DarkRP each rank has more or less tools, everyone has the Guest/Default tools but a Guest will not have Respected's extra tools and the higher rank you are the more tools you have to play with. The default key to open up the tools and props menu is Q and on the right of that is the tools menu which looks like this. (This is a Level 4's menu)
This is one of the most time saving tools there is, but its only for certain ranks, to use it you need to build your base first and this will save it how you made it for next time so you dont have to rebuild it over and over again. When you first go into the tool menu it will look like this picture, with the names of the saved bases you've already done.
To save your base after you've completed it, first you must make sure that every prop is welded together, if a prop isn't welded then it wont save it. After that right click on any of the props that's welded and a progress bar will come up in the middle of your screen.
When it hits 100% click "save to server" and a box will come up then type in the name and (optional) a description. When you hit Save the process bar comes up again, when it hits 100% its saved and you can open it up anytime, anywhere.
Now to open and put your base down! first go into advanced duplicator and highlight the name of the base you want and click Open, this is what it should look like.
Before you left click to put the base down there's a few options for you, the basic must have ones you are "paste it frozen" and "paste at original angles" these two keep the base how you saved it when you bring it back, theres only one other option you should really consider and thats "paste at original location" this brings back your base to where it was saved or not, if you're in the same house/location then its possible but if not you have to leave it unclicked and try and fit it somewhere else.
If you've made a mistake or made a better base and saved it to get rid of the old ones or the ones you dont want, in the advanced duplicator click on "Server Folder Management" and in here all you have to do is highlight the file you want to edit and you can rename the saved files, copy the files, move the files or delete the files. Other than that you can make a new folder for the saved file.
Buttons are mainly used to open doors from inside your base so you dont have to put in a code for the keypad everytime but you can use them for almost anything. There are a total of 18 different models for buttons and you can make a description for each button. To make the button work you need to make sure it's the same number as the door then left click the tool gun to place a button down.
You can set up normal cameras to see whats going on outside your base or around town while you're safe inside your base. First choose a button for when you use it, there are two other options below the numbers and they are "Static Camera" and "Toggle". Static Camera means when you put the camera in place, it can not be moved at all and Toggle means when you push the number to see what the camera sees then you need to push the button to return to normal, if you do not use Toggle then you need to hold down the number to see what the camera see's and when you let go it returns to normal.
To place a camera down, look directly at where you want the camera to cover and left click the tool gun so it hits the world (floor, wall etc) and it will pop up inside you, walk sideways and turn around then you will see your camera with the button to activate it above it.
Then press the button (and hold if you haven't got toggled on) and you will see yourself and everything how the camera see's it.
With the colour there is one main rule even though it's not in the MOTD it's for common courtesy - Unless asked to, dont change the colour of anyone's props or model. Colour is mainly used to hide the cameras we just talked about so people dont move them if they are'nt Static and to keep it secret that you're watching them. To make cameras invisible then make the top right number 0, you dont need to change the other colours or options to do this.
Fading doors are really simple to use but really effective defence, to make a fading door just create a prop and go into the fading door tool where you will see a box on the right like this.
You can make it so it starts invisible then goes solid but unless you tick that box its the other way round, you can toggle the door so once pressed, you have to press it again otherwise it closes the door again after 5 seconds. Put the number to the one you want and remember it for the keypad/button to open it so you dont prop block then just left click on the prop you want to make a door.
Keypads are the most important tool for base defence and really easy to operate, first when you go into the tool menu theres a white box with "password" to the left of it, this is the code that needs to be entered for access granted (You can pick any number from 1 - 9999). Below this there's three options which are Secure Mode, Weld keypad and Freeze keypad. Secure mode makes it so when you enter the code the numbers become stars so other people cant see the code, the second and third are to keep the keypad in place on walls or props.
Access -Granted- means when the code is correct it activates anything that is set to the same number such as fading doors or hydraulics etc, keypad crackers dont need the code but when its complete it hits Access -Granted- too. Access -Denied- can be any other number you want but dont make it a number you're already using.
Keypad -Granted- Hold Length is how long the button will be pushed down for, for doors the minimum is 5 seconds but recently dellkan has coded the doors to this so unless you want it more than 5 seconds then it dosen't matter. Keypad -Denied- Hold Length is how long the button will be pushed down for, untill recently it use to be used for turrets and how long they would fire for but now there isn't a use for it.
Materials are good for defence too, some props when used with material can make it possible for you to see through the prop but they can not see you and there's also a material to change a big prop into a monitor for RT Camera's.
This is one of the most useful basic tools you can get and its main function is moving props next to each other so you dont have to, it has alot of other uses but im only going to cover the basic and the way I do it is I move number one to number two so thats how im going to explain it.
When you first go into this tool you will get a picture on the right like this
First, you need to make sure the prop you want moving is facing the prop you want it attached to or else it can go wrong, in the Point submenu make sure it's on number one and then click on the corner of the prop you want moving. When you do this two things happen, first is that a red + sign goes to where you clicked the prop to tell you where it will attach to the other prop and second is in the sub menu a green dot pops up to the right of the number one to tell you that's being used.
Now you need to click number two in the Point submenu.
Then click on the corner of the prop you want the first prop moving to and again two things happen when you do this which is red + sign goes to where you clicked the prop to tell you where it will attach to the other prop and second is in the sub menu a green dot pops up to the right of the number two to tell you that's being used. After you've done that this is what it should look like
Almost done! Now you need to right click (with the tool gun) on the prop that you want moving so it turns blue otherwise it will not move it.
What you need to do now is in the Point Submenu on the left column put that to number one (the one we want moved) and in the right column put that to number two (the one we want it moved to)
If you did not right click on the prop the "Move Entity" button will not light up even if you did all other steps correctly as show in these pictures.
Then the two props should look like this.
All you have to do now is hit the "Move Entity" button and the prop with number one on will move to the number two prop so the two red +'s will come together as show here.
Now you need to get rid of the blue prop, to do this right click on the world (floor, wall etc) and the prop goes back to normal.
Then go into Precision Alignment menu and click "Delete All" which will delete the two red +'s on the props and your finished!
You can set up RT cameras to see whats going on outside your base or around town while you're safe inside your base with one major difference to normal cameras, instead of seeing what the camera see's on your screen it shows up on a monitor or a prop using the right material. However with the RT Camera only one person can use it at a time or else people will be fighting for the view on the monitor and at the moment its first come first serve. First choose a button for when you use it, theres an option below called Static Camera and it means when you put the camera in place, it can not be moved at all. To place a camera down, place it in the direction where you want the camera to cover and left click the tool gun so it hit's the world (floor, wall etc) and the camera will pop up inside you, walk sideways and turn around then you will see your camera with the number above it.
At the top there's an option "show monitor on HUD" all this does is makes the view on the monitor at the top left of your screen so you don't need to look at a monitor but it dosen't only show your RT Cameras view but whoever's using it aswell.
Stacker has the same use as Precision Alignment but this can only stack props already there in the direction you choose which are up, down, left, right, forward and back but can do up to 10 props at once and you can also change the distance between each prop too, for no gap inbetween you either use 1 or -1 depending on which direction it is. Make sure to freeze the props in the options or else they could fall down with a little push afterwards, weld props means welding both the props together so they can be saved with the advanced duplicator. I would not touch the rotate options unless you really know what you're doing.
Textscreen can be used for many things such has advertising your shop, showing the rules as a mayor etc and is a simple tool to use.
When you first go into the tool you will see you can have up to five lines of anything you want to say as long as its not breaking rules and can change the colours of any line and the size of the font on any line aswell which means they can all be different to catch people's eyes better. Here's an example of a 10 second edit of the tool.
Thanks For Reading.
